Scientific Editing and Proofreading

Academic Proofreading

Academic editing improves the overall quality of a text. This includes spelling, syntax and grammar improvements. This services is recommended for general scientific texts such as essays, reports, grant applications, cover letters, and CV’s. Academic editors are experienced linguists but do not hold necessarily hold a PhD.

For manuscripts intended to be submitted to journals we recommend PhD editing or PhD proofreading.

PhD Editing

PhD editing improves the overall quality of the writing and includes rephrasing for flow, improving clarity of message, and changing awkward sentences.
This service is recommended for manuscripts intended for journal submission or where major language revisions have recommended by reviewers. Texts are edited by native English speakers who hold a PhD in an area close to the text.

PhD Proofreading

PhD proofreading involves correcting minor mistakes, missing articles etc. It improves already good writing and is typically at the end stages of the manuscript submission process.
This service is recommended as a last check before a journal submission or where minor revisions have been recommended by reviewers. Texts are edited by native English speakers who hold a PhD in an area close to the text.

At eCORRECTOR, we provide language support to academics and researchers who intend to submit their manuscripts to international journals for publication. We are well aware of the rigorous standards placed on language and this can be a key factor when reviewers evaluate texts.

  • Physics, mathematics and geology
  • Many of our medical proofreaders are qualified Doctors of Medicine (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery)
We also provide editing and proofreading of manuscripts in other academic areas such as history, philosophy, sociology and management.

Quality Control

Our Head of Scientific Editing and Proofreading, Mark J Hunt, received his PhD from the University of Cambridge, UK and has published over 30 academic papers and regularly serves as a reviewer for international journals. He has over 15 years’ experience editing and proofreading manuscripts and is well aware of the standards expected by editors and reviewers when evaluating submitted manuscripts. He has been based at the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology, PAN, since 2007 and completed his habilitation in 2017.

At eCORRECTOR, each text is treated individually. We carefully select the most appropriate editor or proofreader based on the content of the manuscript. The text will be edited or proofread by an expert in the field which ensures the scientific integrity of the text will be maintained and the language will be elevated to the expected publication standard. We only work with editors and proofreaders who have met our strict standard of both academic and linguistic excellence.

We are so convinced about the standard of the editing and proofreading that we provide a Certificate of Editing or Proofreading Certificate (stating the area of specialisation of the editor or proofreader) with each full manuscript submitted to us.

Academic Excellence

Our editors and proofreaders have received their doctorates from internationally-recognised Universities and most continue to work in the UK or USA.
Since our editors and proofreaders are subject matter experts and very experienced with writing and editing manuscripts intended for publication, they will often insert a few helpful comments, which can be used at the author’s discretion that may serve to strengthen the manuscript before final submission.
We are very proud of the academic excellence of editors and proofreaders who will work on your text. Here are some of the universities where our editors and proofreaders received their PhDs (or MBBS): University of Cambridge, University College London, King’s College London, Queen Mary University of London, University of Massachusetts, Johns Hopkins University, University of California, University of Edinburgh, University of Newcastle, Durham University, University of Arizona, University of Minnesota, University of Colorado, University of Connecticut, Ohio State University.

How We Work

Individual approach

All manuscripts are treated individually. We assess each manuscript on an individual basis to determine which editor or proofreader (subject matter expert) is best suited to proofread the text.

Head of Scientific Editing and Proofreading

Once editing or proofreading is complete, the final text is approved by our Head of Scientific Editing and Proofreading with any further changes or comments added at this stage.

Track-changes version

A track-changes version (changes highlighted) and a final version (ready-to-go) of the manuscript is sent back to the author, along with any comments which were raised at the editing or proofreading stage.

Fast respond

If the author has any queries concerning the editing or proofreading or would like clarification, they may contact us directly and we respond usually in 30 min.

Questions

If the author of the text has questions concerning correction or needs additional clarification from the specialist editor or proofreader, we are available for a direct contact.

Customer care

We have a strong customer care ethos and listen to the needs of the authors who use our service. We have recently introduced a short feedback questionnaire so we can continue to meet and exceed the demands of our clients.
