On 21-25 Nov 2018, our Head of Proofreading, dr hab. Mark J. Hunt, attended the IPEG Meeting at the Psychiatric University Hospital (PUK) in Zurich. The main organiser was the International Pharmaco-EEG Society, a professional association for persons (academia, clinics, industry) operating in electrophysiological brain research in pharmacology, neurotoxicology, personalized medicine and related areas. The goal of the entire event is to establish a platform for a global exchange of research results regarding electrophysiology and its applications.
The invited keynote speakers from Germany, UK, Switzerland, Canada and the Netherlands delivered speeches on state-of-the-art projects in clinical and preclinical research. There were also seven Symposia areas, covering subjects from machine and deep learning in EEG, through sleep and drug therapy, to animal research. A training course on EEG research was also planned for the first day of the meeting. The areas covered during the training include processing EEG data for biometrical research and EEG-Vigilance Analysis. A new feature of the event is the establishment of the Prof Werner M. Herrmann Prize for outstanding young researcher presentation and the ?Prof. Dr. Turan M. Itil, MD, FAPA, FACNP Memorial Grant for supporting high-quality EEG research.
Later on, Mark was joined by Dorota, our Managing Director, and they could enjoy Zurich together. The Christmas market opened on 22 November, so Mark and Dorota could enjoy the amazing light decorations and festive mood. They also had the possibility of trying unique Swiss fondue and mulled wine!
We do hope that all IPEG Meeting participants enjoyed their time in Zurich and left with heads full of new research ideas.
